Find Your Website Niche

For purposes of this article, we are assuming that you are starting up a brand new business.

It comes down to one thing ... what is your passion?

Every body is passionate about something. I will concede, however, that it's buried deeper in some versus other people. In my processing of mentoring people to build web businesses, some times this part comes easily, and other times, the person will struggle with this as if it's a life and death decision.

Let me give you a hint. It probably doesn't have anything to do with what you want to be when you grow up! Some how most of us learn to confuse what we must do to get what we need (or want) vs. doing what we love to do and letting that lead us to where we need to go. It's quite possible this process takes a leap of faith.

Here's how you find out what you are passion about: Take out a pen and piece of paper and write down what are your likes and dislikes, hobbies, interests, talents and skills. Just keep writing until there is nothing left to add. Then go back over your list and pick out the top three ideas that stand out the most to you as being an important part of your life for a significant amount of time. They should pretty much jump off the page at you.

For example, my list read like this: good health, personal growth, self-help, yoga, meta
physics, singing, dancing, writing, being an entrepreneur, children, travel, freedom, making money, electronic gadgets, movies, computers and internet marketing. When I went back through this list, the three constant things in my life were: subjects relating to having good health throughout life, personal growth (I'm a self-help junkie), and Internet Marketing. I love anything to do with computers.

So I built a website called Everything Menopause as well as this site to help others build an online business. I provide mentoring services for Internet Marketing. I also have other affiliate sites that are growing into supporting me financially - which meets my ultimate goal of being financial independent into the retirement years.

Is this helping you get the idea of how to find your own niche?

If not, ask yourself - "What would I do if I KNEW I couldn't fail?" This helped me single out the things I want to accomplish before I die.

Once you've got your niche, move on the finding your keywords.
